Experience

Want to catch some fish on your next trip to Mahahual? Join us for a Costa Maya fishing charter!

Our trip offers a mix of coastal trolling and/or bottom fishing (depths of 30 to 150 meters.) Trolling catches may include barracuda, spanish mackerel, jacks and, if we get lucky, wahoo, mahi, kingfish or even billfish. If bottom fishing, we may catch different types of snapper, including “huachinango” or red snapper, amberjacks, or caribbean reef sharks.

When children are part of the group, we can shift our focus to smaller catches in shallower areas with casting equipment when requested.

Don’t forget to download our free field guide to get to know some of the animals before your trip!

We are strictly committed to sustainable fishing practices and low-impact tourism experiences on the great Mesoamerican reef system here in Mahahual, Quintana Roo.

Equipment

Our fishing charters are on one of our 25ft pangas, the most common crafts in the Caribbean. Our tour includes all Penn fishing equipment, baits (skirted ballyhoo), semi-professional snorkeling equipment (all cleaned and sanitized before and after every use) including fins, certified life vests, and a personal guide who will also snap some underwater photos of you as a courtesy.

Food/Refreshment

We offer snacks to enjoy right on the boat. We provide water, beer, sodas as well as fresh fruit and a delicious guacamole.

Preparing your Catch

If you’d like to have your catch prepared for you, the restaurant at Hotel Blue Reef Mahahual can do so at a cost of only 200MXN (~10USD) per person, for those who would like a dish. Other members of the group not interested in a dish are free to enjoy other items from the menu if desired.

After your Tour

After your trip you are welcomed to relax on the beach and paddle around in our kayaks. Our area of sargassum-free beach is right alongside “Hotel 40 Cañones”.

Costs/Reservations

The price displayed is for families up to 5.

To set up a reservation time, call, email, or send us a WhatsApp message at +52 (473) 110-7350.

***We can’t always be sure the weather will be kind to us, so we offer flexibility with reservation times and cancellations due to sea conditions and Harbor Master regulations.

Where to Go?

Finding us is easy. If coming in by a cruise ship, you can take a taxi from the cruise terminal directly to Hotel 40 Cañones where you will see our booth right on the beach. Taxis charge 4USD per person (one way) and the ride is only about 7 minutes.
